Getting to camp
Summercamp once again takes place at Frickley Lake, a 200 acre site near Battle, Sussex, just 1 hour from Gatwick and Brighton and 90 mins on train from London.
The venue
Situated in East Sussex, Frickley Lake is a beautiful site just 90 minutes from London and 1 hour from Gatwick and Brighton. The farm is set in 180 acres of wonderful rolling Sussex countryside, located in 1066 Country and an area of outstanding natural beauty approx 3 miles west of the Abbey Town of Battle. The farm sits between Tent Hill where William The Conqueror allegedly camped the night before the battle of Hastings and Standard Hill where he placed his flag after the battle.
Arriving by car
Free parking is available on site, although we do encourage campers to be kind to the planet and where possible car pool (via the Facebook group) or arrive via public transport (see below).
Free shuttle bus
We are putting on a free shuttle bus from Brighton and Polegate stations to Frickley Lake thanks to our friends at The Big Lemon Bus Company.
Arriving by bus from Brighton
The bus leaves on Friday 15th September from the back of Brighton Station at 8am, arriving at camp by 9.30am (via a stop at Polegate station). Places are limited so make sure you respond to the attendee form we send out close to the event. The bus will leave the site on Sunday at 3.30pm, arriving at Polegate by 4pm and back in Brighton by around 5pm.
Arriving by train (from London or Gatwick)
If you’re arriving by train the nearest station is Polegate with direct trains from London Victoria (90 mins) and Gatwick Airport (50 mins). It’s about 20 minutes drive from Frickley. There is also a station at Battle a similar distance away with direct trains from London Charing Cross, although we won’t be offering a shuttle bus from there,
The shuttle bus will depart from Polegate station at 9.30am on Friday morning, so if you are arriving from London on the train please aim to get the 7.54am train from London Victoria which is scheduled to arrive at Polegate at 9.10am (the same train stops at London Gatwick Airport at 8.28am). If it’s needed, the bus will return to Polegate station at 10.30am for a second pick up.
We’ll also be offering a free shuttle bus back to Polegate on Sunday departing the site at 3.30pm, arriving at Polegate by 4pm. There is a train departing at 4.07pm from Polegate which arrives at Gatwick Airport by 4.57pm and London Victoria by 5.30pm.
We may put on an earlier bus on Sunday if there’s enough demand.
If you miss the shuttle bus from Polegate station call Polegate taxis on 01323 484212. A taxi should cost around £40 from Polegate £90 from Gatwick.
